![]() Misaki is a woman who holds a lot of regret when we meet her. He's been fairly sheltered by the location he has grown up in, but he values his friends and family highly and his honour too. ![]() He is young when we meet him, still in school and learning fast, but he is also creative and clever. He is brilliant from birth, and there are heavy expectations placed on him by his family to master thier family skill, The Whispering Blade, and exceed all expectations. Mamoru is Misaki's son, and he is the first-born Matsuda of the new generation. We follow two main characters in this book, Mamoru and Misaki. For a frozen mountain at the end of the Empire this spit of land is home to some of the most prolific and highly-qualified fighters out there, including the Matsudas. The book draws heavily on Asian culture and there are many parallels with Japanese training and family structures, and this is something I think has been done very well. ![]() This is a story set in an icy landscape on a mountainside. **Trigger warning: Rape, Abuses of various kinds, Violence, extreme War.** ![]() *A book I read for #SPFBO as a judge and which I quickly fell for as a fan* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Funny and filled with stories, this book allows you to understand more about each of the Enneagram types, keeping you from pausing long after you have heard the chapter about yourself. In The Road Back to You, Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile forge a unique approach - a practical, comprehensive way of accessing Enneagram wisdom and exploring its connections with Christian spirituality for a deeper knowledge of God and of ourselves. Do you want help figuring out who you are and why you're stuck in the same ruts? The Enneagram is an ancient personality type system with an uncanny accuracy in describing how human beings are wired, both positively and negatively. It can also keep you in the shallows with God. What you don't know about yourself can hurt you and your relationships - and maybe even how you make your way in the world. Ignorance is bliss - except in self-awareness. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When an Air Force team unleashed the first lethal drone strikes in 2001 for the CIA, the military's view of drones changed nearly overnight. The remarkable cast of characters responsible for developing the Predator includes a former Israeli inventor who turned his Los Angeles garage into a drone laboratory, two billionaire brothers marketing a futuristic weapon to help combat Communism, a pair of fighter pilots willing to buck their white-scarf fraternity, a cunning Pentagon operator nicknamed "Snake," and a secretive Air Force organization known as Big Safari. The Predator itself was resisted at nearly every turn by the military establishment, but a few iconoclasts refused to see this new technology smothered at birth. ![]() Once considered fragile toys, drones were long thought to be of limited utility. As Richard Whittle shows in Predator, it was one of the most profound developments in the history of military and aerospace technology. Produktbeschreibung The untold story of the birth of the Predator drone, a wonder weapon that transformed the American military, reshaped modern warfare, and sparked a revolution in aviation The creation of the first weapon in history whose operators can stalk and kill an enemy on the other side of the globe was far more than clever engineering. ![]() ![]() ![]() Her third book in the series, Remy, was released on November 26, 2013, and also made the New York Times Best Sellers list. A beautifully written, compelling and genuinely innovative read. In a parallel story, Ursula lives and we follow her story as she relives the dramatic events of the early 20th century again and again. The story begins on a snowy day in 1910 with the death of baby Ursula. In Life After Life, Kate Atkinson asks some interesting questions about fate and destiny. Here, we've hand-picked eight of the best Kate Atkinson novels to read now. She's one of my favourite writers and even if you've read these books before, they're worth revisiting as there is layer upon layer of detail. Her prose is beautiful and her writing is laced with dark humour. ![]() Her books may be award-winning but they're also deeply readable. These are hugely popular and have been turned into BBC TV series, Case Histories. As well as her inventive literary fiction, which has twice won her the Costa Novel Award (with Life After Life and A God In Ruins), she's made a name for herself as a crime writer with four books featuring private investigator Jackson Brodie. ![]() She started writing short stories in her 30s and won a magazine competition but it was only after she turned 40 that she began her first novel, Behind The Scenes At The Museum. Kate Atkinson is something of a rule-breaker: she didn't publish her first book until her 40s and she refuses to stick to one genre, with both best-selling literary and crime novels to her name. Overview A dramatic story of WWII espionage, betrayal, and loyalty, by the 1 bestselling author of Life After Life In 1940, eighteen-year old Juliet Armstrong is reluctantly recruited into the world of espionage. ![]() ![]() The Act's total costs, including demolition and rebuilding of many rows of buildings across London was £778,238. These pressures therefore congested the north–south axis of the inner West End almost as much as the relieved London Bridge area. ![]() The development of Regent Street (parallel to the west) in the mid-18th century coincided with not only the building up of great fields west of the area but also Westminster Bridge which was built as central London and the wider estuary's second bridge after more than a century of pressure, in 1750. It connects via St Martin's Place and the motorised east side of the square.Ĭharing Cross road was originally two narrow streets in the West End, Crown Street and Castle Street. Copernicus and Galileo used false arguments to persuade people that the Earth went in circles around the Sun, and that the Sun was the center of the universe. The book takes up how the inaccuracies of the theories of Copernicus and Galileo lead them to be dismissed. The book discusses how different theories of the universe evolved, along with a personal look at the people involved. ![]() Big Bang: The most important scientific discovery of all time and why you need to know about it is a book written by Simon Singh and published in 2004 by Fourth Estate.īig Bang chronicles the history and development of the Big Bang model of the universe, from the ancient Greek scientists who first measured the distance to the sun to the 20th century detection of the cosmic radiation still echoing the dawn of time. ![]() ![]() It was such a fun read and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a little heartbreak and a little love. This was one of my favorite books that I read this year because Jessie always had someone in mind that she thought could be SN but she really struggled trying to make sense of it all. ![]() That is until she receives an anonymous email from someone called “SN” short for “Somebody/Nobody.” This stranger gives her advice on how to survive in her new world. From the popular girls mean comments to the falls in the classroom, she considers moving back to Chicago. From Chicago to Los Angeles, Jessie struggles with her identity and her place in the jungle of Wood Valley High School. ![]() ![]() Julie Buxbaum writes about, Jessie, a teenager who has her life changed forever when her mother dies from cancer and her father practically elopes with a stranger. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum is realistic fiction and romantic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This book left me with a curled lip and resentment that I wasted so many hours on it. Nasal voice and annoying laugh, and awkward sounding humour. How it got resolved just didn’t work for me either. It’s like the authors just didn’t know how to make the ups and downs in this book. ![]() Finally the drama at the end and Mal’s freak out, the things he said, and his decisions were just ridiculous. ![]() The whole premise seemed a bit awkward and unnecessary, and the drama of faking didn’t seem to be enough to base a story on. Actually, all the female characters weren’t likeable. Paul is portrayed as overwhelmed by her beauty, and her liking being adored by him despite his “thinning hair”. She was petty and shallow, and we were supposed to like her? The only “redeeming” feature the authors gave was that she was pretty. Hold me, make love to me, treat me like I’m the most important person in the world. However, this book had too many annoying things. She seems to have a loyal following that leave over inflated positive reviews so it’s always difficult to really gauge how good a book of hers is. This book would have been heading towards a typical 3 star ok read which is what I usually give Lucy Lennox stories, with their small town characters and slightly cringeworthy humour. ![]() |
